教授は大学や短大で教える先生で、多くの場合、その分野の専門家であり研究も行います。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

'教授'は大学教員に使います。小中学校や高校の先生には使いません。'assistant professor'（准教授）、'associate professor'（助教授）、'full professor'（教授）などの呼び方があります。
