何かの前に存在したり起こったことを表します。主に「前の経験」「事前の承認」など、フォーマルな場面で使われます。

'prior'はやや硬い表現で、'prior experience'や'prior approval'のように名詞の前に多く使われます。「prior to」は書き言葉で使われ、会話では「before」が自然です。
