ある場所に住む人の数のこと。また、特定の動物や集団など、地域内の全てのメンバーを指す場合もあります。

多くの場合、人について使われます（例: 'the population of Brazil'）。科学では動物群にも使われます（例: 'the wolf population'）。よく使われる表現に 'population growth'、'population density'、'aging population' があります。'people' より統計的な意味合いが強い単語です。
