तकनीकी (जैसे कंप्यूटर 'परिधीय डिवाइस') व सामान्य संदर्भों में मिलता है। अकसर माउस, प्रिंटर आदि के लिए आता है। 'periphery' (किनारा) से न मिलाएँ। कभी-कभी प्रतीकात्मक अर्थ में भी इस्तेमाल होता है।
