Definition

当某物（特别是机器或设备）不能正常工作或无法按预期运行时，就叫做 malfunction。

多用作名词，正式/技术用语。常与'machine'、'system'、'device'等连用。不同于'break'（完全损坏），'malfunction'指的是运行异常或部分失灵，不一定完全停止工作。

There was a malfunction in the elevator.

电梯出现了**故障**。

The computer stopped working due to a malfunction.
