주로 라디오, 팟캐스트, 라이브 행사 등에서 소리를 듣는 청중을 가리킴. 글을 읽거나 무음 영상을 보는 사람에게는 거의 사용하지 않음. '적극적인 청취자'는 특히 집중해서 잘 듣는 사람을 말함.
