Definition

전에 없던 것을 새로 만들어 내거나 설계하는 것. 때때로 사실이 아닌 이야기나 변명을 만들어낼 때도 쓴다.

Usage Notes (Korean)

공식적, 중립적 상황뿐만 아니라 창의적 또는 과학적 맥락에서 많이 쓰임. 'invent an excuse'(변명을 지어내다)처럼 말도 안되는 것을 만들 때도 쓴다. 'discover'(발견하다)와 혼동하지 마세요.
