山（やま）は、物が無造作に積み重なっている様子や、たくさんのものが集まってできた集まりを表します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

“heap”は整然と積まれたものよりも、乱雑に積み重なったものや大量のものに使われます。「a heap of work」のように「たくさん」の意味でも使います。“pile”よりもカジュアルです。
