機能とは、物の役割や目的、または特定の活動やイベントを指します。動詞としては、正しく作動するという意味です。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

名詞では「the main function of～」や「a social function」と使います。動詞としてはややフォーマルな場面や技術的な文脈で使い、「The system is functioning normally.」のように使われます。数学やITでは「関数」として別の意味があります。
