軍楽隊などで使われる、小さくて高い音の出る横笛。特に行進曲に使われることが多い。

主に歴史的・軍事的な文脈で使われます。現代の日常会話ではあまり登場しません。「fife and drum corps（ファイフと太鼓隊）」の組み合わせでよく見られます。
