Definition

人々に見せるために何かを公開すること。特に美術館やギャラリーなど正式な場で使います。名詞としては見せるために展示されている物を指します。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

動詞と名詞両方でよく使われます。動詞は「show」よりもフォーマルで、美術館、法廷、学術分野で使われがちです。「on exhibit」は展示中、「court exhibit」は法廷提出品を指します。「exhibition（展示会）」と混同しないよう注意。
