階と階の間を自動で人を運ぶ動く階段のことです。

ショッピングモールや駅などでよく使われます。「エレベーター」とは違い、人が階段状の上で自動的に運ばれます。「エスカレーターに乗る」「エスカレーターの右側に立つ」などの表現で使われます。
