إذا وُصف شخص أو شيء بأنه حقير، فهو سيئ للغاية أو غير شريف أو غير أخلاقي ويستحق الاستنكار الشديد.

"Despicable" كلمة رسمية وقوية، تُستعمل للأفعال أو الأشخاص المنحطين أخلاقياً. تُستخدم غالبًا مع "behavior" و"act"، وأحيانًا للأشرار في القصص. لا تخلط بينها وبين كلمات أخرى قريبة النطق.
