شعور قوي بأن شخصًا أو شيئًا ما لا يستحق الاحترام؛ مزيج من الكراهية وعدم الاحترام.

Usage Notes (Arabic)

تستخدم غالبًا في سياقات رسمية أو جادة؛ شائعة مع 'contempt for' (ازدراء لِـ). ليست مثل 'hate' (كره)؛ 'contempt' أقل حدة لكنه أكثر عدم احترام. في القانون، 'held in contempt' تعني مخالفة أوامر المحكمة.
