Definition

ベルは、たたくと鳴る中が空洞の金属製の道具です。学校のチャイムやドアベルのように、何かを知らせるためにも使われます。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「ベル」は物体そのものにも、鳴る音にも使われます。「ドアベル」「チャイム」などとよく組み合わせます。「リング」（指輪等）とは意味が異なります。

Examples

I heard the bell from the church.

教会から**ベル**の音が聞こえた。

Please ring the bell at the front door.

玄関の**ベル**を鳴らしてください。

That sound should ring a bell, but I can’t remember why.

その音、何か心当たりがある気がするけど、なぜだか思い出せない（思い出の**ベル**が鳴るようだ）。
