Definition

ある人や動物が特定の方法で行動し、一般的に社会のルールや期待に従って礼儀正しく自己をコントロールすること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「well」「badly」「strangely」などの副詞と一緒によく使われます。「behaves himself/herself」は規則に従う、礼儀正しい意味です。口語では「acts」も使われます。
