Definition

多くのスポーツや遊びで投げたり蹴ったりする丸い物。もう一つは正式なダンスパーティーを指す。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

通常はスポーツ用の丸いものを指しますが、フォーマルな場ではダンスパーティーという意味もあります。'throw a ball', 'play ball', 'have a ball'（楽しい時間を過ごす）など決まり文句もあります。くだけた会話では失礼な意味でも使われます。
