何かが燃えた後に残る柔らかい灰色や黒色の粉。火葬後の遺骨・遺灰も指す。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

通常「灰」は不可算名詞として使われ、「遺灰」は故人の遺骨を指すときに用いる。'rise from the ashes'は比喩的に再生する意味で使われる。
