「appear」の現在分詞。見えるようになる、または何かしらの様子に見えること。何かが現れたり、誰かがそれらしく見える時に使う。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

フォーマル・インフォーマル両方でよく使う。進行形や受動態（'is appearing'）で登場。'appearing confused'のように「～に見える・感じる」という意味にもなる。'disappearing'（消える）と混同しないように注意。
