Es común en contextos formales y cotidianos: 'school announcements', 'company announcements', 'public announcements'. Suele ir con 'about' o 'that': 'an announcement about the event', 'an announcement that the store will close'. No lo confundas con 'advertisement', que normalmente significa un anuncio comercial.
