ひげひげ（動物の）

Definition

動物の口や鼻の近くに生えている長くて硬い毛のこと。特に猫やネズミなどに多い。人の場合は、短くてまばらな顔のひげを指すこともある。

「whisker」は主に動物のひげ（特に猫）に使われます。人の場合はまだらで短いヒゲを指し、「ひげ」全体や「口ひげ」とは異なります。「by a whisker」は「かろうじて」や「ほんのわずかで」という意味の表現です。
