特に国や集団、人々の間で争いや戦いの状態にあること。深刻な争いごとや対立を比喩的に表す場合にも使う。

主に国同士の戦争だが、人間関係やグループ間の深刻な対立にも比喩的に使う。'argue with' や 'fight with' よりも硬く深刻な響き。
