Definition

重いものが落ちたりぶつかったときに出る、繰り返しの鈍い大きな音のこと。また、強い心臓の鼓動にも使われます。

大きな鈍い音、または心臓の強い鼓動に使います。「sharp」や「metallic」な音には使いません。口語的な表現です。
