অনানুষ্ঠানিকভাবে ব্যবহার হয়। 'give someone the cold shoulder' মানে কাউকে এড়িয়ে যাওয়া। সম্পর্কের আচরণে প্রযোজ্য, খাবার বা বস্তুতে নয়। স্পষ্ট ঝগড়া নয়, বরং নিশ্চুপ বিরক্তি বোঝায়।
