어떤 것이 장소나 집단을 빠르고 강력하게 지나가거나 퍼져서 눈에 띄는 변화를 일으키는 것. 사람, 사물, 감정이 빠르게 확산되는 경우에 사용한다.

주로 질병, 소문, 감정, 트렌드, 혹은 자연현상 등이 빠르게 확산될 때 쓴다. 'through'와 장소, 집단과 같이 자주 쓰며, 느린 상황에는 사용하지 않는다.
