やさしく手でなでること。多くは動物や髪、布などに愛情や安心感を込めて触れるときに使います。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

「動物をなでる」「髪をそっとなでる」のように、やさしく触れる仕草に使います。「strike（打つ）」とは意味が違いますので注意しましょう。速い・激しい動作には使いません。
