변화나 움직임, 진전이 전혀 없는 상태. 주로 과학이나 의학에서 흐름이나 활동이 멈춰 있는 상태를 나타낼 때 사용된다.

‘정체’나 ‘스테이시스’는 공식적, 학술적·의학적 맥락에서 주로 사용된다. 일상적으로는 ‘정지’, ‘정체’가 더 흔하다.
