기계, 컴퓨터, 사업, 프로젝트 등을 작동시키거나 시작하는 것. 신생 회사나 프로젝트를 뜻할 때도 사용한다.

주로 기술 또는 신생 사업에 사용한다. 'start up the computer', 'start-up 회사' 같이 쓴다.
