何かの上に足を置いて立つこと。また、自分の意見や行動の基盤となるものを表す比喩的な表現にも使われる。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

文字通りの意味と比喩的な意味があり、「stand on principle」は信念を大切にするという意味。'stand up'や'stand for'とは異なるので注意。
