祕密地觀察或監聽某人或某事，通常是為了在對方不知情的情況下獲取資訊。

非正式或中性用語，常用於政府、父母或懷疑的伴侶祕密監視他人。後面常跟被監視對象，如“spy on neighbors”。強調祕密與未經同意。與“spy for”（為某人當間諜）不同。
