Definition

固体の大きな材料から外力や風化などで剥がれ落ちる小さな破片を指します。主に工学や建築などで使われる専門用語です。

「スパール」は日常会話よりも技術分野で使われます。「splinter」は木片ですが、「spall」は石やコンクリートなど無機物の破片に使います。
