Conversa breve e educada sobre temas pouco importantes, usada para ser simpático ou evitar o silêncio com pessoas pouco conhecidas.

Geralmente informal; habitual em contextos sociais, trabalho ou entre desconhecidos (como no elevador). Os temas mais usados são o tempo, esportes ou acontecimentos do dia. Não serve para conversas profundas.
