더 크던 것에서 잘리거나 부서져 나온 아주 얇고 길쭉한 조각. 주로 나무, 유리, 음식 등에 사용됨.

주로 아주 얇고 뾰족하거나 섬세한 조각에 사용하며, 'a sliver of cheese'처럼 얇게 썬 음식이나 'a sliver of glass'처럼 날카로운 것도 포함됨. 'splinter'(주로 나무 조각)와 혼동하지 않도록 주의.
