時間や機会が気づかないうちに素早く経過することを表します。日々やチャンスが意識しない間に過ぎ去る時に使います。

主に時間やチャンスについて使われ、注意しないと気が付かずに過ぎてしまう場面で使います。「let (something) slip by」は「〜を逃す」イメージです。
