本隊の前に出て、素早く動きながら偵察や小規模な戦闘を行う兵士たち。敵を混乱させたり弱体化させたりする目的がある。

主に軍事史や戦略ゲームの中で使われ、一般的な兵士を指す言葉ではない。軽装の機動性ある部隊に使う。
