Definition

やすりや道具を使って、主に木や金属などの表面をこすってなめらかにすること。

主に木材や金属、古い塗装など実際の表面を滑らかにする時に使います。DIYや日曜大工でよく見かけます。「sand down the table」＝「テーブルをやすりで削る」のように使います。抽象的な意味には使いません。

We need to sand down the old table before painting it.

塗装する前に古いテーブルを**やすりで削る**必要があります。
