تُستخدم هذه العبارة في سياقات رسمية أو محايدة، غالبًا للتحذير من العواقب. كثيرًا ما تأتي مع 'run the risk of [شيء]'. لا تخلط بينها وبين 'take the risk' فهذه تعني اختيار المخاطرة، بينما 'run the risk' توضح وجود الخطر.
