Definition

ボタンを押したりロープを引いたりしてベルの音を鳴らすこと。誰かの注意を引いたり建物に入る時、イベントを始める時などに使われます。比喩的に何かが「聞き覚えがある」ときにも使われます。

実際のベルやドアベルを鳴らすときに使います。'that rings a bell'は「聞き覚えがある」という意味で比喩的にも使います。「call the bell」とは意味が違います。
