기존의 건물, 차량, 기계 등에 새로운 부품이나 기술을 추가하여 성능을 개선하거나 기준을 맞추는 것.

주로 수동태('~was retrofitted')로 사용된다. 'with'(새로운 부품) 또는 'to'(기준 충족)와 같이 활용됨. 기존 것의 업데이트나 업그레이드 상황에만 사용.

The old school was retrofitted with solar panels.
