تُستخدم العبارة بأسلوب رسمي أو وصفي عندما يكون هناك رد فعل قوي (خوف أو اشمئزاز) تجاه شيء تراه. لا تستعمل للمفاجآت الخفيفة. تدل غالبًا على حركة جسدية للابتعاد.
