主要是口語，有點情感色彩，常用來指某人讓別人失望或拋棄別人（如“Don't quit on me!”）。通常指人，有時也指機器（如“我的車拋錨了”）。和單純的放棄不同，強調的是遺棄還依賴你的人（或事）。
