声称自己是其实并不是某身份的人,通常用来欺骗他人。有时(尤其在历史中)指声称拥有王位或头衔但实际上没有的人。

通常带有贬义,指假冒、虚伪或不诚实的人。可指自称有本事、名气或权力的人。历史语境下,'pretender' 是指自称有皇位权利的人。不用于儿童游戏或日常表演。
