城や要塞の入口を防御するために上下に動かす、鉄や木でできた重い格子状の門です。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

中世の城や歴史的な建築に関する話題で使われます。「城」や「門」などと一緒に使われ、日常会話ではめったに使われません。
