気胸とは、肺と胸壁の間に空気が漏れ込み、肺が部分的または完全にしぼんでしまう病気です。

『気胸』は医療用語で、日常では「肺がつぶれる」とも呼ばれます。「血胸」や「胸水」とは異なりますので注意しましょう。
