تُستخدم 'play out' غالباً بشكل غير رسمي للتعبير عن كيفية تطور الأحداث أو وضوح النتيجة مع مرور الوقت، خصوصاً عند عدم اليقين. لا تخلطها مع 'play' بمعنى اللعب؛ هنا تعني 'تتطور' أو 'تنتهي'.
