يبدو عليه الحزن أو الكآبة أو يعبر عن الأسى. يُستخدم غالبًا لوصف صوت أو بكاء أو موسيقى فيها حزن شديد.

Usage Notes (Arabic)

عادةً ما يُستخدم لوصف الأصوات الحزينة مثل ‘plaintive cry’ أو ‘plaintive melody’ أو ‘plaintive voice’. كلمة رسمية وأدبية، قلما تُستخدم في الحديث العادي. لا تُستعمل لوصف الأصوات السعيدة أو المحايدة.
