গাছের ডাঁটা বা ফলের খোসার নিচে থাকা নরম, স্পঞ্জের মতো অংশ; কোনো কিছুর মূল বা সবচেয়ে গুরুত্বপূর্ণ অংশও বোঝাতে ব্যবহৃত হয়।

'Pith' শব্দটি অস্তিত্ব বা মূল বক্তব্য বোঝাতে আনুষ্ঠানিক আলোচনায় ব্যবহৃত হয় ('the pith of the argument'); সাধারণ কথোপকথনে বিরল। উদ্ভিদ বা ফল নিয়ে বিজ্ঞানভিত্তিক আলোচনা ছাড়া কম ব্যবহৃত। 'pit' (বীজ) শব্দের সঙ্গে বিভ্রান্ত হবেন না।
