핀을 이용해 옷이나 표면에 어떤 것을 고정하는 것. 때때로 책임이나 잘못을 다른 사람에게 덮어씌우는 뜻으로도 쓰임.

배지, 꽃, 쪽지 등을 꽂을 때 자주 쓰임. 'pin the blame on'은 책임을 떠넘기다는 뜻. 'depend on'과 혼동하지 않게 주의.
