어떤 것이 갑자기, 급격하게 떨어지거나 줄어드는 것. 비행기가 앞부분을 아래로 하며 급하강할 때도 사용함.

구어체 등에서 많이 쓰이며, 비행기 실제 급강하 외에 'stocks took a nosedive' 등 큰 폭의 급격한 하락에도 자주 등장함. 완만한 감소에는 쓰지 않음.

The airplane went into a nosedive during the storm.
