誰かを職や役割、賞などのために正式に推薦・提案すること。

Usage Notes (Japanese)

主に公式な場面（職、賞、委員会、選挙など）で使用されます。'nominate to the board' のように役職の後に続けます。'appoint'（正式に任命する）とは異なり、まだ「提案」です。受動態（'was nominated to'）でよく使われます。賞の場合は 'nominate for' を使います。
